This summer has seen some fantastic results for TEAMBATH-MCTA. I will not go into fine detail but offer a broad view of the highlights and leave it to coaches and player blogs to expand the detail.
Highlights are:
- Toby Martin gaining an ATP ranking by qualifying and winning a 1st round match saving a couple matchpoints en-route. He then served for the 2nd with set points in the breaker against Jamie Baker.
- Rich Gabb followed a quarter-final in the doubles at junior Wimbledon with ex-Bath academy teammate Ashley Hewitt by regaining his ATP ranking qualifying in Ilckley then playing his best match ever in the 1st round before losing closely to Willis. A week later he beat Dan Evans in Frinton. Rich has been selected to represent GB in the European Championships.
- Sid Hazarika stepped up big time to take his 1st ITF title in Edinburgh then backed it up with good wins to play an epic finishing runner-up to .....67 76 57. This elevates Sid's ranking into the 300's and sends a strong message that he is intent on becoming a top junior.
- Anna Fitzpatrick is slowly regaining full fitness, climbing the rankings again and tearing up the British Tour.
- Bridget Folland gained her 1st ITF points and continued with good tennis in Winchester.
- India Saunders continues to rise in the TE rankings with solid results.
- Samm Butler has risen to 143 TE U16 and continues to make great progress
- Seb Rey and Will Bissett have continued to have a good year with domestic and International success. Seb has is now inside the top 20 nationally for his age and Will is number 6.
Other news:
Jade Curtis decided to quit tour tennis for the moment and hone her skills at an American college. Jade struggled to find her confidence and never gained momentum after a poor loss in the Bath 10K soon after joining. We wish her well and perhaps she will rejoin us after college tennis matured and seasoned by University tennis and life.
Dave Sammel and Roxanne will no longer work with Naomi Broady by mutual consent. We could not agree the pathway forward in discussions after Wimbledon qualifying. We wish Naomi the best of luck as she navigates the next step in her career. Her time with us included her only Challenger title, a career high ranking of 268 and the 3 tournament wins in a row, the longest winning streak for a British woman in the Open era.
